Some Samples

(Note that when you see a wraparound version of a book cover, the front cover is on the right. If there is no title strip between the front and back covers, it is because a book has too few pages for a spine.)

Miracles Do Happen was based upon art provided by my client. In this case, it consisted of oil paintings by his wife, whose story the book tells. My years of working with color printing have left me able to get the most from an image, and when a book has no interior color, the cover ends up being the only place to show some nice piece of art that means something to the book.

Good Dogs with Bad Names, by Maxyne Bursky, also featured artwork provided by my client. The 'board of shame' title card was my own idea. Familiar looking background? I'm using the texture, which I scanned from an old book, as the background for this web page.

Talk to the Hands, also by Maxyne Bursky, used an original photo of the paper tape used by court reporters, artfully strewn on my studio floor.

Way Off the Record, also by Maxyne Bursky, was fun because I even got to draw the cover art myself, illustrating one of the anecdotes in the book (the blurry text is from the same story, in which a counsel attempts to grab a court reporter's stenotype machine. True story!

Hope for Africa was produced in two languages. My proofreading skills were undoubtedly more useful in the English edition. Victorine Diakiese provided the evocative photo (and of course the author photo).

Love, Wine, and Vengeance is one of a series of mysteries set in coastal Florida. The artwork is a stock photo, chosen in close collaboration with the author.

Ta Da! is from the same author, and has a slight overlap in characters, but with a somewhat different emphasis upon a number of animal friends who communicate mentally with chosen humans. The cover art and interior art were provided by the author.

One of several covers for Robert E. Levasseur, showing cover and spine. The art in this case was created by me to harmonize with existing art choices on similar books by the author, which was kind of fun. I don't remember how to do it, but I remember how to look it up.

Relationships Open Doors uses a stock photo image that not only captures the spirit of the book, but also echoes an existing cover (depicted in miniature beside the barcode) for his earlier book, designed by Martha Williams Nichols of aMuse Productions--my sister, who is presently retired for health reasons, and who refers clients to me from time to time.
